Crown Prince Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan orders renaming to strengthen the bonds of humanity between the followers of different religions
ABU DHABI – The United Arab Emirates has renamed a famous mosque in Abu Dhabi, the Mary, Mother of Jessus Mosque.
It was previously named Sheikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Mosque.
Crown Prince Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan ordered the renaming to “strengthen the bonds of humanity between the followers of different religions.”
The move was welcomed by religious leaders in the UAE, including Andrew Thompson, a senior clergyman at St. Andrew’s Church.
He said the renaming of the mosque was “a gesture of religious tolerance” and symbolized “the UAE’s commitment to peaceful coexistence.”
Jeramie Rinne, senior pastor of the Evangelical Community Church in Abu Dhabi, also praised the move.
He said this is “a pacesetter in this region for peaceful coexistence and cooperation”
The renaming of the mosque is the latest example of the UAE’s commitment to religious tolerance.
In recent years, the country has opened its doors to people of all faiths, building mosques, churches, synagogues, and temples.
