Israel allocates funds for tighter control of East Jerusalem
Critics claim the plan is aimed at advancing Israel’s annexation of East Jerusalem and consolidating its control over the city
TEL AVIV, Israel – The Israeli government has announced plans to spend $843 million over the next five years to tighten control over occupied East Jerusalem.
The plan, unveiled by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, aims to eliminate social inequalities, and promote economic development in the city.
Critics, however, claim that the plan is aimed at advancing Israel’s annexation of East Jerusalem and consolidating its control over the city.
The plan comes days after an Israeli settlement watchdog movement said the government is funding the annexation of West Bank land by allocating an additional $190 million budget.
The Israeli government plans to spend billions of dollars to tighten its control over occupied East Jerusalem and the West Bank.
This is seen by many as another step toward annexation and denial of Palestinian rights.
