Indian security guard kills colleague and 3 Muslims on moving train
NEW DELHI, India – A security guard in India shot and killed his senior colleague and three passengers on a train. The deceased passengers were Muslims.
The constable, Chetan Singh, then jumped onto the tracks with his gun and began running.
Eyewitnesses reported that the officer shouted slogans praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the hardline chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath.
The exact reason for the incident is not yet known, but witnesses say it was a hate crime.
A video reportedly shows Singh standing near the bodies, apparently justifying the killings.
The incident occurred at 5 a.m. local time after the Mumbai-bound Jaipur Superfast Express passed through Vapi station in Gujarat.
Singh fired 12 rounds from his automatic weapon.
He first killed his senior colleague, 57-year-old Tika Ram Meena, and then the three passengers.
Singh was seen arguing with Meena over his duty hours.
Prominent Muslim lawmaker Asaduddin Owaisi called the incident a “terrorist attack” directed against Muslims.
He said the attack was an expression of the hatred Hindu nationalists spread against the Muslim community in India.
