FBI director rejects any role in Capitol riots
WASHINGTON – FBI Director Christopher Wray has denied allegations that his agency incited former President Trump’s supporters to storm the U.S. Capitol.
Testifying before the House Judiciary Committee, Wray said such claims are ridiculous.
“This notion that somehow the violence at the Capitol on January 6 was part of some operation orchestrated by FBI sources and agents is ludicrous and is a disservice to our brave, hardworking, dedicated men and women,” he said.
Wray said the FBI had no prior knowledge of the attack.
In the attack, hundreds of former Trump supporters stormed the federal legislature on Jan. 6, 2021.
It was the first time the Capitol had been occupied since the British burned it and much of the capital during the War of 1812.
Tucker Carlson, formerly associated with Fox TV, claimed that FBI agents were behind the attack.
This theory was then taken up by some Republican legislators. To date, no evidence has been presented to support this claim.
