U.S. strike kills ISIS commander in Syria
DAMASCUS, Syria – A U.S. drone strike is believed to have killed Osama al-Muhajer, the leader of the ISIS group in eastern Syria.
The attack came after Russian warplanes attacked U.S. MQ-9 drones over Syria.
No civilians were killed in the attack, but coalition forces are investigating reports of one civilian injured.
The U.S. has deployed about 1,000 troops in Syria as part of an international effort to combat the terrorists ISIS.
The head of U.S. Central Command, Gen. Michael Kurilla, said ISIS poses a threat not only to the region but far beyond.
The U.S. has called on Russia to cease reckless behavior of harassing U.S. drones.
Russian jets drop flares in front of U.S. drones on two separate occasions.
Russia is a key ally of the Syrian regime of President Bashar al-Assad.
