Number of displaced Yemenis drops by half
SANAA, Yemen (AA) — The number of displaced people in war-torn Yemen has dropped by half in the first six months of 2023.
A statement from the International Organization for Migration said 20,892 people were displaced between Jan. 1 and July 1, 2023.
That is down from 42,000 in the same period last year.
The U.N. agency said that Hudaydah, Marib, and Taiz provinces were affected by displacement.
Yemen has been wracked by violence and instability since 2014, when Houthi rebels allied with Iran seized much of the country, including the capital, Sanaa.
The nine-year civil war has claimed the lives of nearly 400,000 people in Yemen.
However, de-escalation has recently begun to emerge in the war-torn country as the United Nations seeks to resolve the conflict.
