Former CNN reporter sues network for wrongful dismissal and racism
LONDON – Former CNN reporter Saima Mohsin is taking legal action against the news network, alleging unfair dismissal and racial discrimination.
Mohsin, who was incapacitated after an accident while reporting from Jerusalem in 2014, claims that CNN did not support her after the incident.
She also alleges that she was denied high-profile broadcast slots because of her race and disability. Mohsin, a Pakistani-origin British journalist, also alleges that she was paid less than her white male colleagues.
CNN has vehemently denied these allegations. The case is due to be heard in London next Monday. The network believes that Mohsin does not have the right to bring the case in London.
“I’m also taking the opportunity to highlight the racism and gender pay gap issues that I experienced. I was repeatedly let down and denied the ability to achieve my potential while I was at CNN,” she told media outlets.
Mohsin hopes that her case will serve as a catalyst for change to provide better protections for women journalists of color.
