Trump vows to reinstate Muslim travel ban
NEW YORK (AA) – Former U.S. President Donald Trump has promised to reinstate the controversial Muslim travel ban if he is elected to office in 2024.
In a speech to his supporters in Iowa, he said he had instituted strict security vetting and imposed a strong entry ban to keep radical Islamic terrorists and jihadists out of the country.
“Under the Trump administration, we imposed extreme vetting and put on a powerful travel ban to keep radical Islamic terrorists and jihadists out of our country,” he said.
Trump had issued three versions of the controversial ban in 2017. The Supreme Court had allowed full enforcement of the third version. It excluded almost all travelers from five predominantly Muslim countries.
He said the travel ban will return, even on a larger scale, when he returns to office.
“When I return to office, the travel ban is coming back even bigger than before and much stronger than before. We don’t want people blowing up our shopping centers. We don’t want people blowing up our cities and we don’t want people stealing our farms. So, it is not going to happen.”
President Joe Biden signed an executive order lifting the ban during his first week in office in 2021.
