Condemnations continue to pour in against Quran burning in Sweden
ANKARA (AA) – Pope Francis has condemned the burning of the Muslim holy book, the Quran, in Sweden.
He said freedom of speech should not be used to denigrate others. The act of Quran burning was condemned by several countries.
The Organization of Islamic Cooperation has called for joint action to prevent such acts.
A 37-year-old man of Iraqi origin burned a copy of the Quran outside a Stockholm Mosque last Wednesday.
The incident sparked protests and condemnation from Muslims worldwide.
The incident has put Sweden’s imminent entry into the military alliance NATO in doubt, as the country needs Türkiye’s support.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has strongly condemned the repeated Quran burnings in Sweden.
In Pakistan, Friday will be observed as a day to uphold the sanctity of the Quran.
Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif called on all political and religious parties to organize rallies and meetings to send a message to those who desecrate the holy book.
