Footage shows Israeli settler desecrating Holy Quran
TEL AVIV, Israel – An Israeli settler is seen desecrating a copy of Holy Quran in the Palestinian village of Orif on Wednesday.
Security camera footage showed the masked man ripping pages and throwing them on the ground in front of the mosque.
The men were also seen setting fire to a school, nearby homes and a mosque.
Residents told Israeli newspaper the Haaretz the attackers had entered the village from the direction of the nearby Yitzhar settlement.
No arrests were made following this incident.
Yesh Din, an Israeli human rights organization, described the footage shocking.
It said the act of the masked man demonstrates that the sole purpose of setters is to incite a riot by committing organized pogroms.
Israeli settlers rampaged through several Palestinian towns in the West Bank Tuesday night.
Many of them were armed, descended on the town of Turmusaya, and shot dead a 27-year-old Palestinian man.
US State Department spokesperson, Vedant Patel condemned these violent acts.
She said accountability and justice should be pursued with equal rigor in all cases of extremist violence.
