American Muslims mourn death of five young women
MINNEAPOLIS, Minnesota – The American Muslim community is mourning the loss of five lives killed in a crash in Minneapolis on Friday.
Five young women and teens were killed when a speeding SUV violently crashed into their car.
Victims Sabiriin Ali (17), Sahra Gesaade (20), Salma Abdikadir (20), Sagal Hersi (19) and Siham Adam (19) were preparing for their friend’s wedding.
Abdulahi Farah, a leader of the Dar Al-Farooq Center in Bloomington called it a great tragedy.
He said the Muslim community is mourning the loss of these lives.
Police say that the driver blew through a red light and slammed into their car.
All of them died at the scene.
Police say after the crash, a man got out of the car and ran off, but was caught and arrested.
Authorities have not identified the suspect.
But the local newspapers identified him as 27-year-old Derrick John son of John Thompson, former member of the Minnesota House of Representatives.
On Saturday afternoon, the Dar Al-Farooq Center held a special service to honor the five lives.
