Female Muslim student accuses German professor of racial slurs
COLOGNE, Germany – A professor in Germany is under fire for racially insulting a female Muslim student.
Gulsen Kurt, a Muslim student, said the professor insulted her because she wore a headscarf.
Attorney Faith Zingal, who represents the student, said the incident occurred during an economics class on the campus of Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences in northwestern Germany.
“Article 4 of the German Constitution protects religious freedom, and a student can attend lessons by wearing a headscarf. The attitude of this professor is absolutely unacceptable,” he told Turkish news agency Anadolu.
The professor used racist language and even compared the Muslim woman’s headscarf to the swastika symbol of neo-Nazis.
Kurt said she was shocked by the teacher’s racist language.
She said most of the students reacted and left the class in protest.
She claimed the professor said he would not allow a female student to wear a headscarf, just as he would not allow a neo-Nazi to wear a swastika.
The student said the professor yelled at her and called her an Islamofascist.
“The professor said that he will not allow a student with headscarf to attend the class, just as he would not allow a neo-Nazi wearing a swastika, He shouted at me, saying ‘you are an Islamofascist’, and that he will report me to the directorate,” she told Anadolu.
