2 Arab women sue Israeli airline for humiliation suffered
TEL AVIV, Israel – Two Arab women living in Israel have sued an airline for humiliating them and treating them in a racist manner.
A lawyer from the Racism Crisis Center filed the request for $45,000 in compensation from Arkia Airlines.
According to the information, the women, who wore a hijab, were questioned about their private lives when they arrived at Tel Aviv airport on April 13.
After knowing that they had spent some time in Gaza, Israeli security subjected them to a rigorous check. They were asked to remove their hijabs and even their hair bands.
When they refused, the Israeli security conducted a humiliating strip search that resulted in one of the women breaking down in tears.
Later in the flight, they were also insulted by passengers. They also discovered that security forces had removed the contents of their carry-on luggage, including medication.
The Racism Crisis Center noted that this was not an isolated incident.
It claimed that Arab citizens of Israel regularly report profiling at Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv.
The lawyer associated with the center said this was the result of illegal racial profiling.
