U.S. observes one year of Texas school shooting
WASHINGTON – U.S Wednesday commemorated one year of the Texas school shooting in which 19 children were killed.
President Biden led the nation in remembering those children.
He said a year ago, Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, became another battleground in America.
“Remembering is important, but it’s also painful. One year ago today, Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, turned into another killing field in America,” Biden said in a White House address.
An 18-year-old spree killer entered the school with an assault rifle, firing at least 100 rounds and killing 21 people.
“For the families of the children and educators, we know one year later is still so raw for you,” the president said.
This was the third deadliest school shooting in the U.S.
The president repeated his call for a ban on assault rifles and high-capacity magazines.
He said firearms remain the leading cause of death for children in the United States.
Biden said this epidemic cannot end until Congress passes some gun safety legislation.
“Since Uvalde, our country has experienced a staggering 650 mass shootings,” he said.
