Two soldiers wounded in stabbing attack in central Israel
Jerusalem, Occupied Palestinian Territories (AFP):
Two soldiers have been wounded in a stabbing attack in central Israel and the suspected assailant arrested, police and medics said.
Police said they had “arrested a suspect for stabbing two soldiers” near Tzrifin, a large military base near Beer Yaakov, on the outskirts of Tel Aviv.
First responders from the Magen David Adom emergency service said they had taken two people in their 20s to hospital in “mild and moderate condition” respectively.
The stabbing follows a spate of violence and deadly incidents in the Occupied Territories since the Islamic holy month of Ramadan began on March 23.
There has been a spike in violence in Palestine since the start of the year, after Israel’s new hardline regime took over under Prime Minister Netanyahu.
On Monday, two Palestinians were killed in an Israeli raid on the West Bank city of Nablus.
Earlier on Saturday, three Israelis were wounded in a West Bank car ramming attack. Israeli soldiers immediately killed the alleged Palestinian perpetrator without due legal process.
Less than 24 hours earlier, Israeli police shot dead an Arab Israeli who they alleged had tried to open fire in the Old City of Israeli-occupied east Jerusalem.
The victim’s family disputed the Israeli allegation and asked for proof, none of which was produced.
