Israel arrests 27 Palestinians in West Bank
RAMALLAH, Palestine (AA) – The Israeli army forces rounded up 27 Palestinians across the occupied West Bank on Tuesday, according to a local NGO.
In a statement, the Palestinian Prisoner Society said 15 of the detainees were arrested in al-Fawar refugee camp in Hebron city.
The NGO estimates that 950 Palestinians have been detained by the Israeli army since the start of this year.
The Israeli army frequently carries out wide-ranging arrest campaigns across the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem on the pretext of searching for “wanted” Palestinians.
These arrests are made under the “administrative detention” doctrine, according to which, arrests can be made for “preventing” a suspected security breach, hence Palestinians can be arrested without charge or warrant, on the basis of suspicion. Such detention is also without any specified limit of time as well as without access to a fair trial.
