Rockets fired into southeastern Türkiye, injuring 8 security personnel
KILIS / GAZIANTEP, Türkiye (AA) – At least eight security personnel, including seven police officers, were injured on Sunday by an apparent terrorist rocket attack into southeastern Türkiye near a border gate into northern Syria, officials said.
The rocket fired by members of the YPG/PKK terror group in Tal Rifat, northern Syria, hit a Police Special Operations station located at the Kilis Oncupinar Border Gate in the Kilis province, officials said.
The Turkish Interior Ministry said that one police commissioner and six police personnel were among the injured.
“The terrorist YPG/PKK has illegal hideouts across the border in northern Syria . . . where they plan and mount attacks against Türkiye,” an official said.
Ambulances and security forces were dispatched to the Kilis border region.
Separately, YPG/PKK men in northern Syria fired four rockets into Karkamis in the southeastern Gaziantep province, officials said.
The rockets fell into an empty area.
The attacks came after Türkiye announced early Sunday that it had launched an air operation against the PKK/YPG in both northern Syria and northern Iraq.
The operation follows last Sunday’s attack on Istanbul’s crowded Istiklal Avenue that killed at least six people and left 81 injured.
The Turkish government said the attack was carried out by the PKK/YPG.
