Congressional Progressive Caucus Withdraws Letter That Tepidly Called For Diplomacy In Ukraine
On Tuesday, the Congressional Progressive Caucus withdrew a letter expressing support for diplomatic negotiations to end Russia’s war on Ukraine.
The document’s 30 signatories faced heavy criticism and backlash.
This was from fellow Democrats, party leaders, and pundits on social media.
Rep. Pramila Jayapal is a Washington Democrat and chair of the Progressive Caucus.
She said the letter, addressed to President Joe Biden“was drafted several months ago, but unfortunately was released by staff without vetting.”
She said the message’s timing is being equated by some with House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy threatening to end aid to Ukraine if Republicans take over.
Jayapal said it created the appearance that Democrats are aligned with Republicans “who seek to pull the plug on American support for President Zelenskyy and the Ukrainian forces.”
