Iranian officer killed in Syria
ISTANBUL (AA) – An officer belonging to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has been killed in Syria, according to the Iranian media.
The semi-official Mehr news agency said that Brig. Gen. Abolfazl Alijani was killed while on duty on the evening of Monday in Syria.
The circumstances of his death are not yet clear.
The broadcaster described Alijani as belonging to combat engineering cadre of the IRGC ground forces.
Iran says its forces play an “advisory” role in Syria, and are not on combat mission.
