Gaza faces new wave of COVID-19
GAZA CITY, Palestine (AA) – The Gaza Strip is facing the fifth wave of the coronavirus pandemic, the Palestinian Health Ministry has announced.
A ministry statement said the seaside territory has seen a rise in virus infections in recent days.
The ministry said the new COVID-19 wave is caused by the BA5 omicron subvariant. The statement, however, did not provide any exact figures on infections registered in the enclave.
The last estimates issued by local health authorities on July 4 put the number of infections in the Palestinian territories at 662,588 cases, including 249,701 in Gaza.
