Turkiye to start new operations in Syria: Erdogan
ANKARA (AA) – Türkiye will start new military operations as soon as preparations on the Syrian border are completed, the Turkish president has announced.
After chairing a Cabinet meeting in the capital Ankara, Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that Türkiye’s “anti-terror” operations in Iraq are continuing successfully.
About the upcoming NATO summit in Spain, Erdogan said: “Tomorrow we will go to the NATO Summit in Spain, and we will do whatever is necessary, in line with the rights and interests of our country.”
He went on to say that hypocrisy displayed by some countries regarding organizations that the Turkish regime considers “terrorist” will be disclosed at the upcoming NATO summit with documentary evidence. These groups include the PKK/YPG and Fetullah Gulen’s Movement which is dubbed by Turkiye as ‘Fetullah Terrorist Organization’ (FETO),
The Kurdish nationalist group PKK has struggled for more than 35 years for independence, often bringing it into violent clash with Turkiye. Fethullah Gulen led a progressive Islamic movement against Erdogan’s rule, which culminated in a coup attempt in July 2016. The coup attempt was violently put down by Turkish forces, followed by severe restrictions on the group over suspicions of infiltration into the military, bureaucracy and judiciary.
Erdogan also claimed that Türkiye has discovered $1 billion worth of oil reserves in the southern Adana province.
