Kuwait’s crown prince dissolves parliament
KUWAIT CITY, Kuwait (AA) – Kuwait’s crown prince Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah on Wednesday dissolved the country’s parliament and called for early elections.
“Based on our constitutional rights, we decided to dissolve the National Assembly constitutionally and to call for general elections,” he said in a televised statement.
The crown prince said a decree on the parliament’s dissolution will be issued in the coming months after finalizing necessary legal arrangements.
“We decided to resort to the people to re-correct the political path,” he added.
Last month, the crown prince accepted the resignation of the government but asked it to continue in a caretaker capacity amid a standoff with the parliament that hindered fiscal reforms.
