House Dems Urge Biden To Work With Cuba To Vaccinate The World
On Thursday, a group of 26 House Democrats urged President Joe Biden to review U.S. policy toward Cuba, to ensure sanctions don’t impede its global vaccination campaign.
They cited the “enormous potential” of Cuban COVID-19 vaccines to tackle enduring global inequities.
Reps. Ayanna Pressley and Steve Cohen said in the letter “Cuba’s goal of vaccinating people in low-income countries offers an important opportunity.”
It offers a bridge for both nations to work together “on urgent healthcare issues facing the world,” they said,
also noting that the U.S. and Cuba “collaborated to confront the Ebola outbreak in West Africa in 2016.”
The Cuba’s national regulatory agency approved the Abdala vaccine on 9 July 2021, making Cuba the first Latin American country to develop a successful covid-19 vaccine.
Cuba reported that Abdala is 92% efficacious after three doses.
