UAE suspends re-export of Indian wheat
ISTANBUL (AA) – The UAE has suspended exports of Indian wheat for four months, the Economy Ministry said on Wednesday.
“The decision is applicable to all varieties of Indian wheat (hard, normal and fine) in addition to wheat flour,” the ministry said on Twitter.
The state-run Emirates News Agency said the decision was made in view of the international developments that have affected trade flows, adding that the Indian government had approved to export wheat to the UAE for domestic consumption.
After Russia launched its war on Ukraine – which is among the world’s largest grain producers – wheat prices rose dramatically over shortage fears.
On May 13, India banned wheat exports except for those backed by already issued letters of credit (LCs) and to countries seeking to ensure food security.
