Israeli FM meets Turkish counterpart to discuss bilateral ties
JERUSALEM (AA) – Israeli Foreign Minister Yair Lapid received his Turkish counterpart Mevlut Cavusoglu on Wednesday at the headquarters of the Israeli Foreign Ministry in Jerusalem.
The meeting, which is expected to last for more than an hour, will be followed by a joint press conference by the two top diplomats.
Earlier on Wednesday, Cavusoglu visited the Holocaust Remembrance Museum “Yad Vashem” in West Jerusalem, and laid a wreath in the museum hall, according to Anadolu Agency correspondent.
On Tuesday, Israeli Foreign Ministry spokesman Lior Khayat told Anadolu Agency that Cavusoglu’s visit was “very important as part of the process of warming the mutual ties between the two countries.”
In March, Israeli President Isaac Herzog visited the Turkish capital, Ankara, and met with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
This is the first visit by a Turkish foreign minister to Israel in nearly 15 years.
On Tuesday, Cavusoglu visited Palestine where he met with President Mahmoud Abbas and Foreign Minister Riyad al-Maliki in the West Bank city of Ramallah.
