Pfizer Covid Pill Preventing Hospitalizations And Deaths: White House
Pfizer’s new anti-COVID pill Paxlovid is helping stave off hospitalizations and deaths, a senior White House official said Wednesday.
Demand for the treatment has soared amid the latest wave of infections in the U.S.
There’s been a four-fold increase in demand over the past month and an estimated 20,000 prescriptions being written daily.
That’s why despite a substantial increase in infections, there’s no commensurate increase in deaths, White House COVID-19 Response Coordinator Ashish Jha said.
Hospitalizations are rising but not by as much as expected at this point, Jha said.
The Biden administration last month launched an aggressive push to expand access to the oral antiviral at tens of thousands of locations nationwide.
