Serbia, Bosnia hold pro-Russia marches on Victory Day
BELGRADE, Serbia (AA) – A pro-Russian march was held in Serbia’s capital during Victory Day events to celebrate the defeat of Nazi Germany in the Second World War.
Hundreds of people attended the Victory Day program celebrated across Serbia and the Republika Srpska, one of two entities of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
During the ceremonies to pay homage to Serbian and Soviet troops who died in World War II, some people held up a big sign with the letter “Z,” which can be seen painted on Russian tanks and other military vehicles used by Russian troops in Ukraine, and a cardboard figure of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The Russian Ambassador to Serbia, Aleksandar Bocan-Harcenko, Serbian minister without portfolio Nenad Popovic, Parliamentary Speaker Ivica Dacic, Interior Minister Aleksandar Vulin and Labour Minister Darija Kisic Tepavcevic attended the program held in Belgrade.
Serbia organized military jet flyovers and officials laid wreaths as part of the celebrations.
The Russian national anthem was also played.
Serbia, which is almost entirely dependent on Russian gas and oil, has come under criticism for declaring neutrality in Russia’s war on Ukraine and refusing to impose sanctions on Moscow.
Meanwhile, a support rally for Ukraine titled “From Bosnian victims to Ukrainian victims” was held in Bosnia and Herzegovina’s capital Sarajevo.
