At Least 16 Dead As Isis-Claimed Blasts Rock Afghan Cities
On Thursday, at least 16 people were killed in two Afghan cities by bomb blasts claimed by ISIS.
Twelve worshippers were killed at a Shia mosque in the northern city of Mazar-i-Sharif, said Ahmad Zia Zindani, provincial health department spokesman.
He added, 58 people were wounded, including 32 in serious condition.
ISIS also claimed responsibility for a second blast in Kunduz yesterday, in which a vehicle blown up near a police station left four dead and 18 injured.
The number of bombings in Afghanistan has fallen since Taliban fighters seized control of the country last year after ousting the U.S.-backed government.
But ISIS has continued with attacks, often against Shia targets.
Earlier this week, at least six people were killed in twin blasts that hit a boys’ school in a Shia neighborhood of the capital Kabul.
