Roadside bomb kills 1 Turkish prison guard, 4 more injured
BURSA, Turkiye (AA) – A roadside bomb killed a prison guard and injured four others in Turkiye’s northwestern Bursa province on Wednesday.
A bus carrying security personnel was targeted with an improvised explosive device near a gas station in Bursa’s central Yenikaraman neighborhood, according to Governor Yakup Canbolat.
The deceased officer was identified as 36-year-old Cengiz Yigit, while one of the four wounded is said to be in critical condition.
Canbolat said authorities suspect this was a terrorist attack and are trying to identify the perpetrators.
To a question about the possible involvement of the PKK terror group, he said authorities do not have enough “clear information” at the moment.
Yigit’s funeral was held in the garden of Bursa Justice Palace, attended by Turkiye’s Justice Minister Bekir Bozdag and Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu.
Speaking at the ceremony, Bozdag expressed his condolences to the relatives of the martyr, and conveyed wishes to the injured guards.
“Turkiye has carried out an effective and determined fight against terrorism, terrorists and all forces that support them … No terrorist attack will make Turkiye step back from its determination. No matter what, it will hold them accountable for their actions and to end terrorism,” he added.
