Democracy ‘Under Siege’ in GOP War On Black Voters: Report
A right-wing effort to entrench Republican power by dismantling the voting rights of people of color poses a threat to American democracy.
That’s according to the National Urban League’s annual State of Black America report published on Tuesday.
The 2022 report cites generations of political tactics such as voter suppression, gerrymandering, intimidation, and misinformation to exclude voters of color.
It details how Republican lawmakers are working with political operatives and violent extremists “to disenfranchise, delude, manipulate, and intimidate” voters.
The report said 19 states have passed 34 voter suppression laws between Jan. 1 and Dec. 7, 2021.
It is “the most significant legislative assault on voting rights since Reconstruction.”
