SHARIF Settlement Of Kashmir Dispute ‘Indispensable’: Sharif
On Tuesday, Pakistan’s newly elected Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said a peaceful settlement of the Kashmir dispute with India is “indispensable.”
Sharif thanked Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi for congratulations on his selection as premier.
He said Islamabad desires “peaceful” and “cooperative” ties with New Delhi.
The state of Jammu and Kashmir has been disputed territory since the end of British colonial rule of the Indian subcontinent in 1947.
The Muslim majority valley is held by Pakistan and India in parts and claimed by both in full.
Sharif became Pakistan’s 23rd prime minister on Monday.
He urged focusing on his country’s socio-economic development.
