Extremists Burn Quran Under Police Protection In Sweden
On Thursday, the Danish leader of a far-right party burned a copy of the Quran in a heavily-populated Muslim area in Sweden.
According to media reports, Rasmus Paludan, head of the Stram Kurs party, placed the Muslim holy book down in a public square in the city of Linkoping and burned it.
He was accompanied by police.
About 200 demonstrators gathered to protest the burning.
Protesters urged police to stop Paludan from carrying out the act.
After police ignored their calls, violence broke out and the crowd began pelting officers with stones.
Mikail Yuksel, who founded Sweden’s Party of Different Colors, said such Islamophobic provocations continue in cities across Sweden.
