Police Detain Over 300 Rohingya For Leaving Refugee Camps
Bangladeshi police are holding more than 300 Rohingyas in transit camps, after they were caught working outside refugee camps or leaving their shelters for other purposes.
Human Rights Watch has renewed its call for the Bangladeshi government to ease movement restrictions on the Rohingya.
The agency says barring refugees from leaving camps for work or shutting down their shops within the camps compounds their misery.
On Monday and Tuesday, during raids in the Ukhia sub-district of Cox’s Bazar, police arrested 216 Rohingya refugees who had left or were leaving the camps.
Bangladesh does not allow Rohingya refugees to work, study beyond 3rd grade or move outside the barbed wired camps without a permit.
