Pope Francis slams UN for inaction
VATICAN – Pope Francis has slammed the UN for its inaction vis a vis the Ukraine war in a plenary session in the Vatican. He said, “We are witnessing the helplessness of the United Nations in the current war in Ukraine.” He added that the persecution in the region is getting more and more gruesome.
Stressing that women and children have been killed during the war, Pope Francis said that it was rather unfortunate that people did not learn and that old familiar story of the great powers competing with each other.
“Today we often talk about geopolitics. But unfortunately, the dominant logic is the strategies of the most powerful states in which they expand their economic, ideological and military spheres of influence and defend their interests. We see that with wars,” he said.
The Pope showed a Ukrainian flag brought from the Ukrainian city of Bucha, which came to the fore with the death of civilians.
Pope Francis then unfurled the flag and posed to show solidarity with Ukraine.
