Group Says Indian Muslims Facing More Difficulties Than 1857 Persecutions By The British Occupier
Indian Muslims are facing a more difficult time now than ever before over religious traditions, said a leader of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board.
He compared the current persecution of Indian Muslims to that of 1857 when the British violently suppressed the freedom movement.
Board General Secretary Maulana Khalid Saifullah Rahmani urged Muslims, particularly women, not to fall prey to “propaganda.”
He said “extremist forces” are trying to “mislead and instigate us” and incite Muslim youth to take to the streets.
Rahmani said the hijab controversy in Karnataka poses a “big test” for Muslims in that state.
The law board is looking into legal remedies against the hijab ban, he said.
