700-Year-Old Paper From Quran On Auction
Sotheby’s auction house recently sold a page from a 14th century copy of the Quran.
Many archaeological artifacts were sold in the auction titled “Art of the Islamic World & India Including Luxurious Carpets.”
The large page of the Quran, written in the Muhaqqaq script on pink paper, dates back to the Mamluk era in Egypt around the 14th century.
The page contains verses from Surah Al-Shura sold for over $3,200.
Another folio of the same copy of the Quran is in the collection of the Aga Khan Museum in Canada.
