60 journalism professors seek review of New York Times report on Hamas attacks
Nearly 60 journalism professors have urged the New York Times to conduct an independent review of its report alleging Hamas fighters’ involvement in rape and brutality against women.
The story titled ‘Screams Without Words’ was published last Dec. 28.
The professors from leading US universities have expressed concerns over the integrity of the Times’ reporting and editorial processes, as well as its editorial oversight.
They cite compelling reports challenging the article’s accuracy, highlighting discrepancies in the information presented.
These include denials from victims’ families as well as contradictory evidence.
The professors drew parallels to past journalistic missteps at the New York Times.
The group has urged the Times to immediately commission a group of journalism experts to conduct a thorough and fully independent review of the reporting, editing and publishing processes for the story and release a report of the findings.
The newspaper has not yet commented despite growing criticism of the controversial report.
