57 Democrats urge Biden to prevent Israeli invasion of Rafah
As many as 57 House Democrats have urged President Joe Biden to prevent a potential Israeli invasion of Rafah.
In a letter led by Congress members Pramila Jayapal and Madeleine Dean, they emphasized the dire humanitarian situation in the city.
Over a million Palestinians displaced by Israel’s aggression are struggling with overcrowded shelters in Rafah.
The Democrats highlighted previous Israeli strikes there and the devastating toll on civilians, including women and children.
Despite global pressure, Biden has resisted cutting off military aid to Israel.
The lawmakers warned that invading Rafah could escalate the war, endanger civilians, and destabilize the region further.
They urged Biden to withhold military support to protect civilians and work toward a lasting ceasefire.
The letter also notes the Israeli attack risks 130 prisoners, including six or more Americans, in Gaza.
