55 Palestinians killed in Türkiye-Syria earthquakes
RAMALLAH, Palestine (AA) – At least 55 Palestinians have been killed in the two powerful earthquakes that struck Türkiye and Syria, according to a Palestinian diplomat.
Palestinian Ambassador to Türkiye Faed Mustafa told state news agency Wafa that 23 more refugees were confirmed dead in Syria on Tuesday, bringing the death toll to 55.
The envoy added that entire Palestinian families were killed in the quakes, without providing any further details.
Ahmed El-Deek, a political adviser to the foreign minister, said 14 Palestinians were killed in Türkiye while 41 others lost their lives in Syria.
According to Wafa, three Palestinian refugee camps in Syria were badly affected by the earthquakes: the Raml camp in Latakia city and Neirab and Handrat camps in Aleppo city.
A magnitude 7.7 earthquake struck southern Türkiye’s Kahramanmaras province early on Monday and another magnitude 7.6 quake hit the same area in the afternoon.
