500 taxpayers sue Congress members over funding of genocide in Gaza
More than 500 taxpayers from Northern California have filed a lawsuit, accusing Congress members of funding genocide in Gaza by aiding Israel.
They accuse Congress members Jared Huffman and Mike Thompson of violating laws by voting to allocate $26.38 billion in military aid to Israel in April 2024.
They claim that U.S.-provided weapons were used in attacks on Palestinian civilians.
The lawsuit has been filed in San Francisco federal court.
Szeto-Wong Law is representing the plaintiffs, who come from diverse backgrounds.
They include educators, health care workers, and Jewish and Palestinian Americans.
Plaintiff Carol Bloom says the emotional toll is “immeasurable.”
Another, Laurel Krause, accuses officials of ignoring public appeals.
The suit says the Congressmen abused their tax-and-spend authority and forced their constituents into being complicit in genocide.
