500 illegally executed in operation by Malian, French troops in March 2022: UN report
Dakar, Senegal (AFP):
The Malian army reportedly executed at least 500 people during an operation assisted by French troops in central Mali in March 2022, it came to light in a report released on Friday by the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights.
OHCHR “has reasonable grounds to believe that at least 500 people were killed in violation of norms, standards, rules and/or principles of international law” between March 27 and 31 in 2022, in Moura in central Mali.
The operation, according to the report, was quite unnecessary as the region was already under complete control of the Malian government.
The victims included seven children and some 20 women.
As a result of the operation, French troops were eventually compelled to begin leaving the country.
However, there has been no proper investigation or accountability of the responsible parties over the so called “anti jihadist” operation.
