5 PKK fighters ‘neutralized’ by Turkish forces in Syria, Iraq
Turkish security forces claim to have “neutralized” five PKK members in northern Syria and Iraq across Turkiye’s border.
The Turkish National Defense Ministry stated that four of the militants had opened ‘harassing fire’ on the Operation Peace Spring zone in northern Syria.
Since 2016, Turkiye has launched a trio of successful operations across its border in northern Syria against the PKK/YPG: Euphrates Shield (2016), Olive Branch (2018), and Peace Spring (2019).
The ministry also added that a Turkish airstrike ‘neutralized’ another PKK fighter in Operation Pence-Kaplan zone in northern Iraq.
In northern Iraq, Operations Pence-Kaplan and Pence-Kartal were initiated in June 2020, while Pence-Simsek and Pence-Yildirim were launched last April.
Turkish authorities use the term “neutralize” to imply the terrorists in question either surrendered or were killed or captured.
