5 injured as Israeli army demolishes homes of Palestinian prisoners in West Bank
SALFIT, Palestine (AA) – Five Palestinians were injured while protesting against the Israeli army’s recent demolition of the homes of two Palestinian prisoners in West Bank.
The Palestinian prisoners, Youssef Assi and Yahya Marei, were accused by Israeli authorities of killing a security guard in the Ariel settlement on April 29. Their homes were singled out for demolition — in line with the Israeli practice of demolition as punishment for alleged offences by Palestinians.
Human rights organizations condemn such action as “collective punishment.”
Before the demolition in the town of Qarawat Bani Hassan in Salfit Governorate, residents of the area protested. At least five civilians were injured by rubber bullets fired by the Israeli forces, and dozens of others suffered suffocation due to tear gas shelling.
