5 freedom fighters killed in Kashmir by police
SRINAGAR, Jammu and Kashmir (AA): Five freedom fighters were killed in an encounter with Indian security forces in northern Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Friday, police said.
Additional Director General of Kashmir Police Vijay Kumar claimed that those killed, in a joint operation by the army and the police, in the Jumagund area of Kupwara, were foreign militants.
Kashmir, a Himalayan region, is held by India and Pakistan in parts and claimed by both in full.
Kashmiris have been fighting against Indian rule for independence or unification with neighboring Pakistan.
