33 killed in heavy rains in northern India

NEW DELHI, India – Heavy rains have killed at least 33 people and injured many others in the northern Indian state of Himachal Pradesh.
In the state capital Shimla, a landslide at a temple killed at least nine people. According to the state disaster management center, 752 roads in the state have been closed due to the disaster.
One person was swept away by floodwaters, while two others were rescued Sunday evening.
In another incident, an elderly woman was buried alive while her son was rescued after her house collapsed due to the rains, authorities said.
The weather office has forecast extremely heavy rains for nine of Himachal Pradesh’s 12 districts.
The state government closed all schools and colleges in the state on Monday.
