2025 Global Road Safety Film festival kicks off in Marrakech
Film festival leverages cinema to promote global road safety awareness
MARRAKECH, Morocco (MNTV) – The 2025 Global Road Safety Film Festival officially opened in Marrakech, using the power of cinema to promote safer roads worldwide.
The event serves as a prelude to the 4th Global Ministerial Conference on Road Safety, bringing together international stakeholders committed to reducing road traffic fatalities.
Organized by the Laser International Foundation in collaboration with Morocco’s National Road Safety Agency (NARSA), La Prévention Routière Internationale, and the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA), the festival highlights the role of film in mobilizing action for road safety, according to Moroccan outlet Hespress.
With productions from over 64 countries, the festival showcases diverse perspectives on road safety challenges while reinforcing a universal message: the urgent need for collective action to make roads safer.
It brings together UN representatives, policymakers, economic actors, filmmakers, media professionals, and youth engaged in road safety initiatives.
Awa Sar, a member of the festival jury, emphasized the global significance of the event.
“The participation of so many countries demonstrates the international commitment to this cause. Each film tells a compelling story that resonates deeply and calls for action,” she stated.
The 2025 edition focuses on fostering a culture of road safety across all continents, engaging both public and private sector actors, and advancing education and training initiatives.
It also aligns with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly those related to health, infrastructure, and sustainable cities.
Additionally, the festival supports the UN Decade of Action for Road Safety (2021-2030), which aims to reduce global road traffic fatalities by 50% by 2030.
“This event is a vital step toward achieving that objective, as it amplifies awareness and inspires collective action,” Sar added.
By harnessing the universal language of cinema, the 2025 Global Road Safety Film Festival seeks to inspire change, promote innovative solutions, and drive meaningful progress toward making roads safer worldwide.
