200 Palestinians freed in Gaza truce deal
In a landmark development, 200 Palestinian prisoners held in Israeli jails have been released as part of an agreement between Israel and Hamas.
The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) confirmed that 128 of the released prisoners have been transferred to Gaza and the occupied West Bank, while 70 others have been received by Egypt. From there are expected to go to Algeria, Tunisia, and Turkiye.
Among those released, 114 arrived in Ramallah, where massive crowds gathered to welcome them. The jubilant scene was marked by Palestinian flags waving, chants echoing through the streets, and people documenting the moment on their phones.
A convoy of buses carrying the freed prisoners was surrounded by an emotional crowd as the prisoners, still dressed in grey jumpsuits, stepped off the vehicles. Many embraced loved ones, while others were lifted onto shoulders in celebration.
Sixteen of the released prisoners reached Gaza’s Khan Younis. The release has been met with widespread celebrations across Palestinian territories, symbolizing a moment of unity and resistance.
One of the most poignant moments came with the release of Raed Al-Saadi, often referred to as the “Dean of the Captives of Jenin.” Abducted at the age of 23, Al-Saadi spent 36 years in Israeli custody, enduring what many have described as relentless hardship.
His release was met with immense emotion, as he emerged smiling, his resilience serving as a testament to the human spirit.
The development follows the release of four Israeli female soldiers who were held in Gaza.
