2 soldiers killed in ISIS attack in Iraq’s Anbar
BAGHDAD (AA) – Two Iraqi soldiers were killed and two others wounded on Saturday in an attack by ISIS militants in the western Anbar province, according to an Iraqi military officer.
The officer, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said ISIS terrorists attacked a military checkpoint in the city of Heet with machine guns.
He said the attackers took advantage of poor vision in the area following a heavy sandstorm, in which four people died and dozens were injured.
Iraqi authorities have yet to issue an official statement on the attack.
In 2017, Iraq declared victory over ISIS reclaiming all territories the terrorist group had controlled since the summer of 2014 which was estimated to be about a third of the country.
The group, however, maintains sleeper cells in large areas in Iraq and launches sporadic attacks.
