2 policemen killed in ISIS attack in northern Iraq
KIRKUK, Iraq (AA) – Two Iraqi policemen were killed in an attack by the ISIS in Kirkuk province in northern Iraq on Wednesday, according to a local police officer.
The ISIS targeted a police patrol in Jabal Bawr in the Chiman district in the province, police spokesman Amer Nuri disclosed.
Iraqi police sent reinforcements to the area following the attack.
The ISIS overran Iraq’s Mosul, Salahuddin and Anbar provinces in 2014, as well as parts of Diyala and Kirkuk provinces, before these regions were gradually freed from the group’s control.
Although Iraqi authorities announced victory against the ISIS on December 9, 2017, the group still carries out sporadic attacks in the rural areas of these provinces.
