2 Palestinian photojournalists killed near Gaza: Press organization
PARIS (AA) – Reporters Without Borders (RSF) have said that two Palestinian photojournalists have been killed near Gaza.
The Paris-based group said the photojournalists were killed while covering Israel’s response to Hamas’s Operation Al Aqsa Flood.
The group has condemned the killings and urged the parties to protect reporters.
Hamas launched Operation Al Aqsa Flood early on Saturday and said the surprise attack was in response to the storming of the Al-Aqsa Mosque and increased settler violence in recent days, which the international community had turned a deaf ear to.
Hamas claimed that it had captured many Israelis.
Hundreds of Israeli settlers repeatedly forced their way into the flashpoint Al-Aqsa Mosque complex during the Jewish holiday of Sukkot. The mosque which is one of the holiest places in the Islamic tradition, was desecrated as settlers stormed their way into the prayer area.
In response to the attack by Hamas, the Israeli army has initiated Operation Swords of Iron against the Palestinian group in the Gaza Strip.
At least 250 Palestinians have been killed in the attacks, according to medical sources in Gaza, while the Israeli death toll has climbed to 300.
